CANTastic™ Festival Favourites

Festival season is in full swing. If you’re heading to any over late July and August, not only do you need to pack up your tent, and grab your best festival garb, but you’ll also need to make sure you stay satiated!

Festival food can cost a pretty penny so packing your own is one way to save a few bob and that’s where canned food comes into its own.

Not only does it not have to be refrigerated, but they are also convenient. All the preparation is done for you, and they are pre-cooked. Here we have our top four festival-going recipes.

Tuna bean pasta – an easy lunch on the go

A simple yet delicious recipe for tuna bean pasta; this takes no time at all to cook but is sure to keep you full for ages!

Full of flavor, this dish is packed with energy and nutrients (And let’s face it, we all need as much energy as we can get when at a festival!) It can be enjoyed hot or cold and combines peppers, chilli, and red onion with fusilli pasta along with lemon, canned tuna, and cannellini beans.

Cowboy stew – hearty after long day on your feet

If you need some serious comfort food after a long day taking in the sights and sounds of a festival, then this cowboy stew is perfect for you.

This dish uses celery, peppers, beef stock, onion, and canned potato and beef in gravy, to create a hearty bowl of goodness that will keep you toasty in your tent all night. Whip up over a single-ring stove, or pre-make before you go and heat up onsite. Either way, this versatile dish is surely a festival fan favourite!

Herby potato cakes – simple and satisfying

A great dish that is ideal for a quick carb fix– herby potato cakes that are simple and satisfying. Taking canned potatoes, herbs, melted butter, and flour, mix and mould into cake shapes. Try making the salsa to go with – canned cherry tomatoes, red onion, and lime– prepare at home before and easily store to dip your potato cakes into.  Fry until crispy and serve with your favourite picky bits or canned drinks –a perfect festival picnic!

Late night quick fix- chilli nachos

Everyone loves snacking on some chilli nachos – now even easier to make with canned food. For our final festival recipe, let me point you in the direction of some tasty chilli nachos.  Simply using a can of chilli con carne, some nachos, and cheese – this comfort meal makes an easy treat for those late nights outside! If you are feeling fancy, add jalapenos, guac, or sour cream for an extra kick. This recipe only takes 15 minutes to prep and cook, and chilli can easily be heated on single ring.

Top tip for – Cocktail time!

Don’t forget to wash your meal down with a canned beverage! Be it a canned cocktail, beer, soft drink, or wine – canned drinks provide a great option for booze that’s on the move.  There are loads of canned drinks to choose from still, sparkling, non-alcoholic to our favourite festival tipples. Pimm’s anyone? Plus, cans are easily recycled and can be back on shelves in just sixty days.

While you are having your festival fun over the rest of the summer – do it with cans!  And don’t forget all empty food cans can be recycled – just pop them in the recycling bins on your campsite if available.
